Overview

  • Who? Undergraduate students from England, paying £9,000 fees. Only students with a household income of under £25,000 can be considered
  • How much? £6,000 spread over the three years of study
  • Repayable? No

The National Scholarship Programme (NSP) awards are aimed at supporting students from areas that are under-represented in higher education. Awards are only allocated to Level 1 students who are new to higher education. We have a limited number of awards (116 for 2014-15 starters), but have clear criteria and processes in place to ensure they are allocated fairly. Awards can only go to students who have been assessed by Student Finance England as having a household income of under £25,000 per annum.

Priority groups for the NSP awards

  1. Cornish students and those who have been in local authority care
  2. Students who have attended a 'compact school' from outside Cornwall (schools with whom Falmouth University has developed specific progression agreements)
  3. Students from low participation neighbourhoods, students who have a disability, and students from other under-represented groups

How do we select recipients?

  • Firstly we consider applicants from our first priority group, as noted above, who applied for the course by 14 April in the year of enrolment
  • In July and August of the same year we will start to check the household incomes of these applicants, as per the Student Finance England income assessments. Only those with an income of under £25,000pa will be considered. These students will be the first to have their NSP award allocated
  • In September we will consider all the groups listed above, checking for any further income assessments by Student Finance England. From these, further awards will be made
  • A number of awards will be held back until November when late applications from those in the priority groups above will be considered

What is the award?

  • Awards are worth £6,000 each, allocated evenly across the three years of your course with a payment being made at the beginning of each term
  • The awards are non-repayable and are made in addition to any other Falmouth University bursary

Best time to apply

To give yourself the best chance of being considered for an award you need to apply for your course before the 15 January UCAS deadline and apply to Student Finance England at the earliest opportunity.
